Necklaces

Necklaces have been worn throughout history, by both men and women, and have been used as marks of distinction in many cultures, including the ancient Hebrew culture. Necklaces, handsome and richly ornamented, were a principal part of the dress, both of men and women, among the ancient Egyptians; and some idea of the number of jewels they wore (remarks Sir G. Wilkinson) may be formed from those borrowed by the Israelites at the time of the Exodus, and by the paintings of Thebes. They consisted of gold or of beads, of various qualities and shapes, disposed according to fancy and enriched with jewels.

Materials

Most of the necklaces are made with sterling silver wire, stringing wire, or Memory wire coil. The coil allows freedom of clasps. It fits most sizes, keeps it’s shape under normal wear, is comfortable, and can be put on without any assistance, or fumbling with a clasp. It’s great if you suffer from arthritis. Note the beauty of the handmade Bali Silver clasps, as well as the ornate pewter ones that I use and each fits the style of the necklace used with it.

 

I use mostly lead free crystals (with the exception of Swarovski crystals), actual gemstones, mineral stones, etc. Most are natural colors, although some stones may be color enhanced. Many pieces have freshwater, cultured pearls in them. Some have South Seas Shell Pearls, which give the look of real South Seas and Tahitian pearls, without the very high prices
